At ITHACA HOUSE, our philosophy differs sharply from others in the addiction industry. We don’t believe in micro-managing our members or creating an authoritarian relationship with staff. We believe in granting admission to members who desire to learn the skills needed to manage themselves toward full and happy lives. We provide support and momentum for their desire with our unique culture and structured sober environment. A sober woman’s decision to participate in our ITHACA HOUSE culture of recovery-enthusiasm, self-responsibility, personal growth, and independence is a decision to walk in the direction of life-long sobriety and personal freedom.
Sobriety grants for each of us graced with it, the miracle of “the mulligan”; a do-over that offers an opportunity to re-make our lives through right choices and right acts. At ITHACA HOUSE, our vision is that every woman be free to become her finest self. We accomplish this through our transformational ITHACA HOUSE culture and the structure that helps create it.
Our traditions are many. Our ITHACA HOUSE Preamble is read at the start of every meeting within our walls. Our creed is recited often, our poem read aloud at shared meals, and our ITHACA HOUSE prayers sung at special member-only rituals. We are serious about our sobriety and about growing the character required to build the kind of lives we choose for ourselves. |
